According to Estonian Foreign Minister Marina Kaljurand, cyber security must become a part of our everyday lives and not become a luxury item, reports LETA/BNS.

Speaking at the open platform on internet governance EuroDIG in Brussels on Friday, Kaljurand focused on Estonia's priorities as the presiding country of the Council of Europe, protection of human rights and the rule of law on the internet, ICT development capabilities, and security and cooperation between governments and the private sector, spokespeople for the Foreign Ministry said.

Kaljurand stated that Estonia stands firmly for democracy, human rights and the rule of law, including on the internet. "Estonia is committed to protecting the human rights and culture of internet users, to combating cyber crime and developing children's education and skills. As ICT advances, it is necessary for cyber security to become a part of our daily lives, and not become a luxury item," she said and added that Estonia also supports the development of the digital single market.

"In order to ensure trust, security and the sharing of best practices, governments must cooperate and exchange information with the private sector which often guarantees the functioning of essential services," the foreign minister continued. She added that protectionism in the cyber domain will not benefit Europe and we should concentrate on open and innovation-friendly policies.

European Dialogue on Internet Governance, held this year in Brussels, is the main platform for inclusive discussion and debate in the given field at the European level. Kaljurand will in Brussels also accept the baton for organizing the event, and in 2017 Estonia will host the 10th edition of EuroDIG.
