Minister of Culture in Latvia Dace Melbarde travels to the Netherlands today to present the Grand Music Award 2014 for Lifetime Achievement to Concertgebouw Orchestra conductor Mariss Jansons.

As the minister's advisor for media relations Dagnija Grinfelde told LETA, Melbarde will also visit Frankfurt and Berlin, where she will participate in events marking Latvia's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

During the meeting with Jansons, he will receive the Grand Music Award 2014, as he will not be able to attend the March 4 ceremony in Riga due to a tight schedule. The meeting will take place following a rehearsal, and also scheduled to be present – Latvian Ambassador to Netherlands Maris Klisans and Concertgebouw Orchestra's Executive Director Jan Raes.

Tonight in Frankfurt, Melbarde will give a speech before the "Sinfonietta Riga", violinist Vineta Sareika and conductor Normunds Sne concert in Frankfurt's Alte Oper.

On February 10, the minister will leave for Berlin where she will meet with several German cultural officials to discuss the priorities of Latvia's presidency at the EU Council.

On her trip, Melbarde is being accompanied by her advisors Linda Pavluta and Martins Kaprans.
