At around 10:20 p.m. last night, a young male citizen of Latvia, jumped off the Tallink ferry "Festival", into the sea, as LETA found out from Tallink sales and marketing manager Baiba Muceniece.

Briefly after he jumped, the ship's captain launched a rescue operation. Gothenburg Marine Rescue Forces were involved in the operation, as were two vessels and two helicopters.

After several hours of search, Gothenburg Marine Rescue Forces ended the operation without any results.

Tallink has reported this incident to the State Police.

The ferry was on its way from Stockholm to Riga.
