Grybauskaite: sanctions could be applied to persons in Belarus, but not against the country

Lithuania will not support economic sanctions against Belarus, President Dalia Grybauskaite said on Monday.

Sanctions could be applied to some groups of persons, but not against the struggling economy of Belarus.

 

"Lithuania and I approve direct sanctions against individuals, i.e. a political list. I am categorically against any economic sanctions against the state. The sanctions against the state would be a blow below the belt, especially given the difficult economic situation," Grybauskaite said after a working lunch with the Cabinet on Monday, informs LETA/ELTA.
