BC, Tallinn, 27.12.2012.Print version
The Estonian government approved on Thursday of the new hunting law that creates prerequisites for better cooperation between landowners and hunters, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.
The law lists in more detail the responsibilities of both hunters and landowners, to make sure that the protection of animals and curbing their number is organized in a way that preserves their favourable state, and natural balance between habitats and species, environment ministry said.
Landowners have in the future the chance of having a say in choosing the user of a hunting area or initiate the process of replacing the user of the hunting area.
The law also lines out a mechanism of compensating damages caused by hunted animals to the landowner and prescribes mandatory shooting tests for hunters of big game.
