Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 03.05.2011.Print version
Starting June 13, the .ee Estonian national domain will get to use umlaut letters õ, ä, ö, ü, ð and þ, thanks to which the whole Estonian vocabulary will thus be covered, Delfi/LETA reports.

Before transition to domain names with umlaut letters, Estonian Internet Foundation together with Estonian Patent Commissioners Society will organise a domain names reservation period called also the sunrise period, that gives companies the possibilities to protect .ee domains that are similar to the companies’ brands, business or product names but include umlaut letters, by preliminary registration, said Estonian Internet Foundation board chairman Marek-Andres Kauts.

The booking period is divided to two: in the first phase, 16.05.2011 – 05.06.2011 booking applications can be submitted to Estonian Internet Foundation. In the second stage, 06.06.2011 – 12.06.2011, patent commissioners check the applications and make the decision whether to satisfy or reject them. The booked domain names can be registered by the applicant till December 31 this year.

Starting June 13, registration of domain names with umlaut letters is opened for everyone.
