Godmanis and Lukashenko discussed economic cooperation perspectives
The Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis |
During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to energy security, including the construction of new energy connections and additional output.
The Prime Minister accented the accessibility of Latvia's services to Belarus business people, especially pointing out to the quality and advantages of Latvia's rail services when exporting products to Europe.
Both sides agreed that, in the current economic situation, it would be useful to invest in the creation of new joint ventures. Latvia's advantage is its membership of the European Union, but Belarus is a member of a customs union with Russia, Kazakhstan and other former members of the Soviet Union.
The two sides also discussed politics, as Lukashenko approvingly assessed that fact that Latvia has undertaken the implementation of the European Union's Neighborhood Policy in relation with Belarus.
