The main successes highlighted are the agreement reached by the Presidency on the European Fund for Strategic Investment; the establishment of the Energy Union; and the work accomplished on legislative proposals in the area of telecommunications, cybersecurity and data protection, which are vital for the creation of a Digital Single Market.
The report evaluates positively the Latvian Presidency’s ability to respond to challenges in a rapid and effective manner concerning the EU’s internal security, and in regard to the EU’s policy on migration and the granting of asylum.
The report contains detailed information on what the Presidency has accomplished on various sectoral issues and offers an overview of the events held during the Presidency, its public diplomacy and cultural programme and events to communicate with the media and society, as well as the human resources involved in running the Presidency, and its sponsors and supporters.
The report has been produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly with all line ministries, the Bank of Latvia and partners in civil society.
