Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 20.05.2008.Print version
According to a survey company IDC, the proportion of unlicensed software in Estonia was 51% in 2007. This is one percent less than in 2006.
This level of software piracy in Estonia means a loss of 200 million kroons. The survey on use of computers and software by Estonian residents commissioned by the Estonian Association of Business Software confirms IDC’s conclusion that only nearly half of computer users have the software licence, writes ETV24/LETA.
In addition to IDC report, Estonian Business Software Association’s survey indicated that half of people polled use legal software and the rest did not know about the legal nature of their software or admitted frankly that they use illegal software. At the same time more than a fifth of people polled stated that they will continue using pirate software and that they did not care about the issue.
