Volume of construction works carried out in Lithuania increased by 3.2% in Q2

In II quarter 2012, against the same period of the previous year, the volume of construction works carried out in the country increased by 3.2% at constant prices. The construction of civil engineering structures amounted to LTL 875 million (55% of the total construction work carried out), the construction of non-residential buildings – LTL 580 million (36%); the construction of residential buildings accounted for only 9% of the total work carried out and amounted to LTL 143 million. The volume of new construction amounted to LTL 530 million, which accounted for 33% of the total construction work carried out in the country.
In I half-year 2012, the volume of construction works carried out in the country amounted to LTL 2.5 billion; compared to the same period of the previous year, it increased by 5.9% at constant prices.

In II quarter 2012, 700 new residential buildings were completed with 1046 dwellings equipped within them, i.e. by 32% less than in the same period of 2011. 70% of residential buildings completed (731 dwellings) were equipped in individual houses.
The aggregate useful floor area of the dwellings completed amounted to 134.5 thous. m2, i.e. by 90.4 thous. m2, or 40%, less than in the corresponding period of 2011. The average useful floor area of a dwelling in an individual house was 128.6 m2, in a block of flats – almost twice smaller (76 m2).

As in the previous year, Vilnius county (46% of the total number of buildings completed), Kaunas county (19%), and Klaipėda county (16%) are in the lead according to the number of dwellings completed.

In II quarter 2012, 338 non-residential buildings were completed in the country; the total floor area thereof amounted to 122 thous. m2, which is by 46 thous. m2 less than in the corresponding quarter of 2011. In terms of the total floor area, the largest share of buildings completed consisted of buildings for agricultural, trade, transport and communication purposes, hotels and catering enterprises.
In I half-year 2012, 1413 residential buildings were completed in the country, with 2416 dwellings equipped within them; in the same period, 606 non-residential buildings were completed, their total floor area amounted to 217 thous. m2.
In II quarter 2012, 1470 building permits (hereafter – permits) were issued for the construction of 1564 residential buildings, i.e. by 185 permits (14%) more than in II quarter 2011. 98% of all permits were issued for the construction of residential buildings. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of permits for the construction of dwellings (in the blocks of flats) grew almost twice.

In II quarter 2012, 514 permits were issued for the construction of 730 non-residential buildings.; the total floor area thereof amounted to 342 thous. m2, i.e. by 37% more than II quarter of the previous year. In terms of the total floor area, the greatest number of building permits was issued for the construction of buildings of trade and catering enterprises, hotels, manufacturing and industrial buildings, warehouses, buildings for agricultural and other purposes.
In I half-year 2012, 2462 permits were issued for the construction of 2610 residential buildings. It is planned to complete 2603 residential buildings and equip 4554 dwellings within them. Also, permits were issued for the construction of buildings meant for persons of 7 different social groups (hostels and similar). 857 permits were issued for the construction of 1239 non-residential buildings.
A building permit – a permission to build a new building (buildings); a permission to reconstruct a building (buildings); a permission to renovate (modernize) a building (buildings); design documentation of construction which has been given a written approval of an authorised civil servant (authorised civil servants); a written consent for construction given by the owner (owners) or the holder (holders) of a land plot or adjacent land plots; a permission to continue the suspended construction.
