"Many people are surprised at how well Estonia has recovered from the crisis. The success of the euro in Estonia is also a very good example and role model to other European states" said Tusk.
Tusk said that Poland, which is preparing to join the euro area, is studying the steps Estonia made. "Our job is to organize things so that the transfer to the euro would be safe for the country. Thus we observe carefully what took place in Estonia and Slovakia and will take place in Latvia soon," said Tusk.
Tusk said that it would be wrong to associate the Estonian economic crisis with the euro. "When I am in Estonia or Slovakia, I see that the existence of the euro makes them stronger and helped cope with the crisis," he said.
