62% remain skeptical concerning euro in Latvia
This past April, 36% of residents had a positive attitude towards the introduction of the euro in Latvia, including 29% with a "rather positive" attitude and 7% with "very positive" attitude.
62% had a negative attitude towards the adoption of the euro, 9% less than in October 2012.
Latvians, men, people with higher education and high incomes (above LVL 300 per person), company managers, leading employees and specialists were the most positive about the introduction of the euro in Latvia.
Foreign citizens, people aged 65-74, residents with basic education and low incomes (up to LVL 120 per person), housewives and pensioners usually were the most skeptical in this regard.
TNS Latvia points out that the growing number of euro supporters in Latvia can be considered a significant improvement in the public opinion, even though most residents still oppose the introduction of the euro in Latvia.
The survey was carried out from April 3 to April 23; altogether, 1,016 residents ages 15 to 74 were interviewed.
As reported, Latvia plans to join the eurozone in January 2014.
