Alcohol-caused mortality rate in Estonia is highest in EU

Leading statistician of the Statistics Board Marianne Leppik wrote in the board’s blog entry that alcohol-related mortality rate in Estonia is the highest among all EU countries, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.
According to the Estonian Institute of Economic Research, in 2011 an average Estonian resident consumed 10.2 litres of absolute alcohol.
During the years 2008-2012, households’ spending on alcohol and tobacco has also grown, from 7% to 10%.
In 2010, there were 6.2 alcohol-caused deaths per 100,000 residents in Estonia. In Latvia, this indicator was 4.8, in Finland 2.6 and in the Czech Republic it was 1.2.
