Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma's (Unity) political goal, as the head of the new government, will be to increase the welfare of Latvian families.

In order to achieve this, inequality must be reduced, Straujuma said in an interview with LETA. She admitted that she would like to fulfill her party's pre-election plan – increase minimum wages, implement a progressive tax system, fix the healthcare system, improve education.

It is also important to facilitate the inflow of investments in Latvia, as it will contribute to the country's national economy.

Coalition partners are in support of these goals, however, each member has their own specific proposals in regard to specific fields; for some it is demographics, for others – national economy. "But the goals are the same for everyone. The question is how we will achieve them. It would be better to ignore some of our ambitions on the way," Straujuma.

She is certain that the parties will not object to the development of Latvia and welfare of Latvian families.

Another important matter concerns security, furthermore, this matter should be tackled by the country itself, instead of some foreign authorities. Straujuma believes that Latvia should act on its own, instead of asking help from other countries, as it is the duty of the country to invest in its security. A large number of residents are aware that this matter also concerns the independence of Latvia.
