Two Lithuanian soldiers injured in Afghanistan
On April 7 two peacekeepers of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of the province of Ghor were injured at about 16.00 hrs (local time) in Chaghcharan, capital of the province, reported BC Lithuania's Ministry of Defence said.
The incident occurred when the troops were returning from a patrol in the area around Chaghcharan to the PRT compound; hostile forces fired an anti-tank missile at their HMMWV armoured vehicle.
One of the soldiers suffered a light leg injury and the other one was severely concussed.
The injured were immediately evacuated to the health care point in the PRT compound where they received the essential medical care. At the moment the troops are under the supervision of military medics. The servicemember who has suffered a concussion will be airlifted to the allied higher-level medical facilities in Mazar-i-Shariff for further examination.
Next of kin have notified. Details of the incident are currently under further investigation conducted by representatives of the Afghan National Police and the National Security Department.
