Ostapenko wins her first ever U.S Open match and advances 2nd round
On Tuesday, Latvia's top-ranked lady tennis player Alona Ostapenko won her first ever match at the U.S. Open ''Grand Slam'' tennis tournament, reports LETA.
Ostapenko defeated Germany's Annika Beck 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to advance to the tournament's second-round.
At the moment, Ostapenko is ranked 114th in the WTA rankings, while Beck is ranked 62nd.
Ostapenko has now earned 40 WTA ranking points for qualifying for the U.S. Open, as well as another 70 ranking points for advancing to the tournament's second-round.
In the tournament's second-round, the 18-year-old Ostapenko Italy's Sara Errani (seeded 26th).
Earlier this season, Ostapenko won her first-ever ''Grand Slam'' tennis match at Wimbledon, where she also advanced to the second-round.
