Latvia's EuroBasket 2015 roster finally announced
The final roster of the Latvian national men's basketball team participating in European Men's Basketball Championships (EuroBasket 2015) has been announced, LETA found out.
The final players to be cut from the team are Davis Rozitis, Martins Laksa and Andrejs Selakovs.
The captain of the national team will be guard Janis Blums, who will be playing in his sixth European Championships for Latvia.
This will be the fifth European Championships for Kristaps Janicenoks and fourth for Rolands Freimanis.
Meanwhile, making their EuroBasket debuts will be Kaspars Vecvagars, Zanis Peiners, Janis Timma and Haralds Karlis.
The final roster of the Latvian national men's b-ball team participating in this year's EuroBasket is as follows:
Janis Strelnieks (Bamberg "Brose Baskets", Germany), Dairis Bertans ("Dominion Bilbao Basket", Spains), Zanis Peiners, Kristaps Janicenoks (both – "Ventspils"), Janis Timma (St Petersburg "Zenit", Russia), Mareks Mejeris ( "VEF Riga"), Kaspars Berzins ("Nizhny Novgorod", Russia), Janis Blums (free agent), Rolands Freimanis (“Kalev/Cramo, Tallinn), Martins Meiers ("VEF Rîga"), Kaspars Vecvagars (Kaunas "Zalgiris", Lithuania), Haralds Karlis (Seton Hall, NCAA).
As reported, Latvia is in Group D in the preliminary round at this year's European Men's Basketball Championships together with Lithuania, Ukraine, Belgium, Estonia and the Czech Republic.
Latvia, who is hosting the group stage, will open the tournament on September 5 against Belgium.
The top four teams in each of the four groups will advance to the tournament's final 16, which will be played out in France from September 12 to 20.
