Estonian president-elect: We need to talk more to one another
Kersti Kaljulaid, elected as the next president of Estonia by the
Riigikogu on Monday, said at a press briefing immediately after the
election that people in Estonia should talk more with one another.
"We need to talk more with one another. I will start work to create a communication network, to be where people are having difficulty," Kaljulaid said.
The president-elect voiced the hope that all of Estonia was a winner on Monday.
"Because we saw that when members of the Riigikogu have promised, they will do what they have promised," Kaljulaid said.
Asked about the destination of her first foreign visit as head of state, Kaljulaid said it will definitely be a neighboring country, but wouldn't specify. Estonia's relations with the other Baltic countries are very good now and it will definitely remain this way also in the future, Kaljulaid added.
"What matters the most today is that we got over the black-and-white mentality, that we could discuss things among us and find a common path," Kaljulaid said.
"I want to be demanding in raising problems and delicate in solving them," she said.
The president-elect said she is ready to communicate with people also in Russian and wishes to continue to reside in her home in the Nomme district of Tallinn instead of moving to the presidential compound in Kadriorg.
