Estonia set itself a long-term objective of establishing an embassy in India and in near future is planning to appoint a non-residing ambassador to India, writes Postimees Online/LETA.

“On the basis of Estonia’s interest in increasing its contacts with India, Estonia has started the process of appointing an ambassador who would not reside in this country,” said the minister of foreign affairs Urmas Paet who is on an official visit to India.

“Estonia has a longer-term objective to open its own embassy in India,” said Paet during his meeting with his colleague Pranab Mukherjee.

The ministers of foreign affairs of Estonia and of India also talked about the fight against pirates near the Somalian coast. “Only actions that have international dimension and are well-coordinated would decrease piracy,” said Paet.

When discussing the UN Security Council reform, Paet stated that Estonia supports expanding the council and India’s membership as a permanent member. Estonia also considers it important to add one place among rotating members for Eastern Europe, including Estonia.
