Tallinn Music Week conference to focus on leadership in culture

BC, Tallinn, 04.08.2020.Print version

The Creative Impact Conference, taking place within the Tallinn Music Week (TMW) festival on Aug. 28 and 29, will address the topics of Music Industry 2.0, sustainable development goals and neighbors, through the lens of resilience and leading change, informs LETA/BNS.

Finnish leadership expert Ben Nothnagel, music entrepreneur Tapio Korjus, secretary general of the Estonian Ministry of Culture Taaniel Raudsepp and a distinguished line-up of leaders in culture are to join the conference program.

"When uncertainty takes over, it's the quality of leadership that can make it or break it. Leadership in culture is a topic that deserves a much bigger focus," head of TMW Helen Sildna said.

"The times of change require new skills in leadership, finance, legal issues, marketing, communication and use of technologies. Fitting the creative vision of the arts into a financial framework is always a challenge, let alone in times of pandemic," she added.

The TMW conference program features a leadership master class by Ben Nothnagel, senior advisor at Aalto University Executive Education and a visiting lecturer in Kedge Business School at Shanghai Jiaotong University. An expert on the impact of leadership styles on the performance, results and well-being of individuals and teams, Nothnagel focuses on identifying key predictors of leadership potential and performance.

The masterclass will be followed by a panel discussion, featuring culture industry leaders like CEO of Fullsteam Agency Tuomo Tahtinen, director of JazzDanmark Eva Frost, director of Estonia's second biggest theater Vanemuine Kristiina Alliksaar, director of Music Finland Kaisa Ronkko, and Virgo Sillamaa, who will share his experience as the executive director of Music Estonia -- a position he will soon pass forward.

Sildna will interview Tapio Korjus, celebrating Finnish music industry legend’s prolific career of 50 years in the business from manager and booking agent to record label boss, publisher and a promoter through his Rockadillo group.

The crisis policies and future-proofing strategies of the music and creative sectors will be discussed by the secretary general of the Estonian Ministry of Culture, Taaniel Raudsepp, and Shain Shapiro, founder and CEO of the leading global advisor on music economies Sound Diplomacy.

The founder and CEO of Storybound Oy and award winning arts and culture marketing expert Elli Makila will host a practical content marketing workshop for music companies to enhance their business.

The full TMW 2020 conference program and panelist line-up will be announced during the first half of August. The TMW 2020 conference takes place in a hybrid format, enabling both on-site participation at the Estonian Academy of Arts  as well as online access from countries where restrictions on foreign travel are still in place.

Besides the conference the TMW 2020 includes a multi-venue music festival and various events across Tallinn from art exhibitions to public talks from Aug. 27 to 30. The TMW info center will be located at the Viru Keskus shopping mall, and the official hotel of the festival is Nordic Hotel Forum.
