A meteorite landed in Latvia’s Mazsalaca on Sunday, creating a crater of about 20 meters in diameter, as the State Fire and Rescue Service's press secretary Inga Vetere told LETA.
The meteorite fell near the farm "Kundrati"; no one was injured.
According to Vetere, the Fire and Rescue Service received a call from Mazsalaca at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday, the caller said that a grassy area was on fire.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a crater 20 meters wide and five meters deep.
The National Armed Forces representatives are planning to visit Mazsalaca to inspect the crater and take radiation measurements; scientists will also conduct an investigation.
