Centre Party of Estonia collected over 13,000 signatures against the increase in pension age
During the past week, the Centre Party has collected more than 13,000 signatures against the move to raise the pension age, writes LETA/Postimees Online.
On Tuesday, the party will also launch its campaign to collect electronic signatures.
Chairperson of the party faction in Riigikogu Kadri Simson noted that the adoption of a decision that affects such a large number of individuals requires wide-based debate and analysis and expert opinions to be taken into account.
“Before the pension age would be raised, the minister of social affairs needs to present a strategy to improve the bad health statistics of the Estonian people and for relieving unemployment – only then can we talk about raising the pension age,” she explained.
“Increasing the pension age requires Estonian people to be healthy and able to take part in the labour market in their 60s as well as the supply of jobs readily available to them,” noted Simson.
In addition to the Centre Party, trade unions have collected more than 10,000 signatures against the increase in the pension age.
