Latvia and Lithuania could jointly organize next year's U-18 Euros – FIBA Europe
Latvia and Lithuania could jointly organize next year's European U-18 Men's Division A Basketball Championships, general secretary of the International Basketball Federation's European branch (FIBA Europe) Nar Zanolin believes.
Zanolin revealed these plans on Thursday, when participating in the opening of the new Kaunas Arena in Lithuania, where the finals of this year's European Men's Basketball Championships (Eurobasket 2011) will take place, according to the Lithuanian basketball portal krepsinis.net.
''Latvia and Lithuania could be the countries that will be entrusted to organize the tournament, with the decisive matches played in Lithuania,'' Zanolin said after informal meeting with Latvian and Lithuanian basketball officials.
The general secretary of the Latvian Basketball Association Edgars Sneps said that such cooperation would be the first step in Latvia and Lithuania's efforts to organize the 2018 World Men's Basketball Championships.
The selection of where next year's European youth tournament will take place will be made in November.
As reported ELTA/LETA, Lithuania is organizing this year's Eurobasket, whilst Latvia organized this year's FIBA U-19 World Men's Basketball Championships.
