Discus thrower Tammert to carry Estonian flag at Olympic Games opening ceremony
The Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC) executive committee approved on Thursday of the Estonian delegation at the XXX summer Olympics in London; discus thrower Aleksander Tammert who participates at his 5th Olympic Games carries Estonian flag at the opening ceremony on July 27, LETA/Postimees Online reports.
The Estonian delegation has 76 members: 34 athletes and 42 coaches and backup staff.
The delegation includes 11 track and field athletes: Evelin Talts, Grit Šadeiko, Anna Iljuštšenko, Marek Niit, Rasmus Mägi, Mikk Pahapill, Raigo Toompuu, Gerd Kanter, Märt Israel, Aleksander Tammert. EOC executive committee gave the Track and Field Union till July 8 to submit a candidate for javelin throw for men.
In bicycle sports Grete Treier and Rene Mandri represent Estonia. Ardo Arusaar and Heiki Nabi represent Estonia in wrestling and Triin Aljand and Martin Liivamägi in swimming.
Martin Padar will compete in judo, Anžela Voronova in shooting, Raul Must in badminton, Kaia Kanepi in tennis, Nikolai Novosjolov in fencing and Reena Pärnat in archery.
Five people represent Estonia in sailing: Anna Pohlak, Ingrid Puusta, Karl-Martin Rammo, Deniss Karpak and Johannes Ahun.
Two rowing boats participate, a 2-seat boat with Jüri-Mikk Udam and Geir Suursild and a 4-seat boat with Tõnu Endrekson, Andrei Jämsa, Allar Raja and Kaspar Taimsoo.
The London Olympics take place from July 27 to August 12.
