Lithuania's future EU presidency will allow increasing country's influence in Brussels

On 4 May, the discussion "Lithuania's Interests in the European Union" was held at the Seimas (Parliament) when marking the 7th anniversary of Lithuania's membership in the European Union, during which Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilunas stressed that the most important goal of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union was to increase the influence of Lithuania in the EU.

"After the Presidency of the EU we will have a better understanding about of the EU's decision-making process, key players and centers of influence, and we will be more organized. Later, the Presidency's experts will be able to represent the interests of Lithuania more effectively. Smoothly run Presidency will allow the country to increase its influence in the EU," Deputy Minister Meilunas said.

 

According to the Deputy Minister, in order to smoothly run the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, we have to make our most important homework timely and well: prepare state institutions, train experts, establish a structure for organizing good events abroad and in Lithuania, and an effective communications system, make contact with key decision-makers in the EU's institutions, writes LETA/ELTA.

 

"Today we can mark our membership in the European Union only because we had rallied around and pursued the common goal. I invite everyone to work hard hand in hand today, so that we could strengthen Lithuania's influence in the EU when we will be smoothly and effectively running the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in two years time," Deputy Minister Meilunas said.
