BC, Riga, 07.04.2014.Print version
Latvia will host 160 to 200 events during the country's presidency of the Council of the European Union, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Reform Party) told the media today, cites LETA.

The precise schedule of the events has not yet been agreed upon, but it is clear that 160 to 200 events will be hosted by Latvia during its presidency at the Council of the European Union. The precise list of the events will be announced in September.

The events of Latvia's presidency of the Council of the European Union will be grouped in four levels. The central event on the highest level of Latvia's presidency at the Council of the European Union will be the EU-Eastern Partnership Summit. There will also be ten informal meetings of EU ministers, and a meeting of the EU and Asian education and science ministers.

The second level will feature meetings of high-ranking EU bureaucrats, roughly 55 such meetings, whereas the third level will include meetings by experts from the various EU ministries – 54 meetings in total. The fourth level will feature 37 meetings – various conferences and seminars, also attended by non-governmental organizations' representatives.

Besides these meetings, many other events will be taking place in Brussels during Latvia's presidency of the Council of the European Union, said Rinkevics.

As reported, Latvia will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2015.
