Dombrovskis expressed acknowledgement to Ambassador of Moldova to Latvia for his contribution in developing bilateral relations

Ambassador Melnic expressed gratitude for Latvia's support to Moldova in overcoming the consequences of continued drought and floods. He also acknowledged successful cooperation at the parliamentary, governmental and cross-sector level by implementing bilateral and trilateral cooperation projects in such areas as public administration, civic society, etc. Prime Minister Dombrovskis emphasised that Moldova has been and will remain a priority in Latvia's development policy.
Both sides discussed the extensive legal base of Latvia and Moldova for economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation. The officials noted that some agreements, for instance, on air transport and social security, are still being endorsed. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the second meeting of the inter-governmental commission would be organised in the near future. The first meeting took place in 2008, in Chisinau.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador also discussed relations of the EU and Moldova. The Ambassador noted that Moldovans are quite optimistic about country's integration into the European Union. The Prime Minister stressed that Latvia supports Moldova and its negotiations towards the Association Agreement, Free Trade Agreement and visa dialogue.
The Prime Minister also showed interest about recent domestic events in Moldova.
At the end of the visit Dombrovskis acknowledged successful work of Ambassador Melnic in strengthening relations of Latvia and Moldova and stressed the achievements of Melnic as the first Ambassador of Moldova to Latvia.
