Enefit begins pilot period for electricity supply to Latvian households
According to Tihane, the first household clients will help the company to better assess its own and the system's readiness for the changes involved as it begins to offer electricity to private households, as well as to detect any potential problems, writes LETA.
"One of these [problems] has already been found – it turned out that despite the fact that a 10% VAT rate is set for electricity provided to households, including for grid services, the electrical grid company Sadales tikls issued bills to our first household clients indicating a 21% VAT rate, which in our opinion is unlawful," indicated the Enefit director.
As reported, Enefit already supplies electricity to Latvian enterprises, and is the main competitor to the Latvian joint-stock power utility Latvenergo in this area, with more than 6% of the overall Latvian market, including 14% of the open market. However, the company also plans to become a supplier to private homes and apartment buildings.
