Teikmanis in Tallinn calls for Baltic States to cooperate in liberalization of natural gas market

It is necessary for the Baltic States to cooperate in the liberalization of the natural gas market and the development of supply, said Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andris Teikmanis in his address to a conference on energy security matters in the Estonian capital Tallinn. LETA was informed of this by the Foreign Ministry's Press Center.

Teikmanis is currently attending the high-level conference "Energy Security: Global Tendencies and Essential Questions". In his address, the Foreign Ministry state secretary stressed the significance of cooperation between the three Baltic States in crucial matters of energy policy.

 

The conference, organized by the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute with the participation of the United States' Center for Strategic and International Studies, was opened by Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. Those in attendance include the economy and foreign ministers of the Baltic States, representatives of the European Commission, foreign ambassadors, experts from Finland and the United States, and also business representatives.

 

The task of the event is to discuss current achievements in energy cooperation within the Baltic Sea region and to outline the forthcoming challenges and perspectives in the development of the world's energy economy.

 

Favorable appraisals have been made at the conference of the plan for the linking-up of the Baltic energy market and its positive influence on the liberalization of the electricity market.
