Presidential adviser: Lithuania will build Visaginas NPP with Poland, Latvia and Estonia
"Lithuania's strategy on the nuclear power plant is very simple and clear: we are building the nuclear power plant with our neighbours Latvians, Estonians and Poles in Visaginas and we are not considering other options. There is no need for hesitation," the president's foreign policy adviser Laurynas Jonavicius said on the Ziniu Radijas on Tuesday morning.
As reported, during Dalia Grybauskaite's visit to neighbouring Belarus last week, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Lithuania and Belarus should build a nuclear power plant together, writes LETA/ELTA.
"Let's build it together because if we build it alone, you will buy electricity from our plant inevitably. If we built it together, then you would buy electricity from your own plant," Lukashenko said during Grybauskaite's visit to Belarus last week.
Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius skeptically evaluated the proposal and said that Lithuania would not consider it. According to the Lithuanian prime minister, the leader of Belarus is making such statements because Belarus is not prepared well to implement the nuclear power plant construction project.
