A specific agreement with Russian gas concern Gazprom concerning the possibility of changing the price formula for the gas supplies to Latvia will take time, Economy Minister Artis Kampars (Unity) announced today after his meeting with Gazprom Board of Directors' Chairman Alexei Miller.

Two questions were discussed during the meeting – a possible change in price formula for the gas supplies to Latvia and the introduction of the so-called "Third Energy Package".

"I am pleased with the constructive meeting with the high-level management of Gazprom. In our conversation with Miller, we had a mutual understanding concerning the basis for our long-term cooperation. However, a specific agreement will still take time, therefore the talks will continue. I have also invited Chairman Miller to visit Riga and Jurmala," said Kampars.

Minister pointed out that Latvia in its talks with Gazprom has several strong and valid arguments, including the public purchasing capacity, namely, that in the calculation of gas supply tariffs it would be preferable to adapt a coefficient, which would even out the rapid price fluctuations due to gas stock prices, writes LETA.

Today's meeting between Minister Kampars and Chairman Miller was the highest level of meeting between Latvian and Gazprom officials, since Kampars' updated the revision of the gas supply prices to Latvia.

As reported, the 15% gas price decrease for next year is an important achievement, however, the talks with Gazprom on the long-term conditions of gas supply contract will continue, after his official meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, said Kampars.
