The Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant project in Lithuania is not dead, Economy Minister Artis Kampars (Unity) said during a conference in Riga today called ''Latvia's National Energy Interests''.

He emphasized that work is moving forward on the project, and that there is well-grounded hope for a good result, informs LETA.

In his address, Kampars also expressed the point of view that many good things have been carried out in Latvia and that energy capacity in the country is proof of a job well done. The effectiveness of the Daugava Hydro-Electric Power Plant has been improved, and reconstruction of the TEC-2 power plant is moving forward.

President Dalia Grybauskaite does not speculate on the issue of possible strategic investor in Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). She only expresses a wish that it would not become a second Williams company. "I do not want to speculate on this issue. No statement can guarantee anything, especially dates. In the first place, I would like to know for sure what we are talking about, what are the conditions, even though I am aware of them approximately. I would not like this to turn into another story like that of Williams, "Grybauskaite said on Wednesday, during her visit to Pabrade town. Prime Minister Kubilius said that the investor to the NPP would be disclosed shortly. According to the PM, construction works should start in 2014.
