Estonian main electricity grid company Elering ordered an analysis from Pöyry Management Consulting (UK) Ltd on pro and contra arguments concerning liberalisation of the Estonian natural gas market and the plan on future activities, LETA/Delfi reports.

The aim of the gas market liberalisation plan that will be completed by the end of October is to yield answers to possibilities and models of developing the Estonian gas market in the light of global market development, about separating the transmission systems from production and sales activities and the necessary investments in the gas industry.

Elering’s board chairman Taavi Veskimägi said that developing the gas market must guarantee adequate energy security in using natural gas via variety of supply chains and suppliers.

The government gave Elering the task of developing gas-related competence in the company last November.
