President Andris Berzins is of the opinion that Latvia's participation in the Baltic countries' nuclear plant project in Lithuania's Visaginas is unlikely at this time, nevertheless, this matter is yet to be discussed, Berzins stressed speaking to reporters on July 8.

The project must be considered extremely carefully, and Berzins hopes that cooperation with Estonia and Lithuania will provide him with all the information necessary to judge the project, informs LETA/ELTA.

Berzins noted that Germany's recent announcement about scrap nuclear power by 2022 would affect Latvia as well.

Apart from this, Berzins expressed his gratitude to all who had helped him to begin his presidency.

As reported, the construction of Visagina NPP will start in 2014; it will start to generate power in 2020.
