The minister, meanwhile, told Degutiene that Japan viewed Lithuania's projected nuclear power plant as an opportunity to rehabilitate the reputation of nuclear energy.
Japan's Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry is also responsible for the energy sector, thus, among other things, Degutiene and Edano discussed the security and future of the nuclear energy sector, writes LETA/ELTA.
"Japan has learnt Fukushima's lessons and aims to offer Lithuania the best technologies. We see the Lithuanian project as a possibility of rehabilitating the reputation of nuclear energy," the Japanese minister of economy, trade and industry said.
The minister thanked Degutiene for Lithuania's swift reaction to the tragedy that hit Japan on March 11, for the condolences extended during Lithuania's commemoration of March 11 and the Lithuanians' aid people to tsunami victims.
Seimas Speaker Degutiene noted that Lithuania had always been standing on the crossroads of history and suffered political tsunami time and again; therefore, it also perfectly understood and sympathized with the nations which suffer from natural disasters.
The Seimas speaker also stressed that the worst storms were in the past and that today Lithuania is among the most attractive states for foreign investment which may be of interest to Japan.
"Lithuania is ranked 14th in the A.T. Kearney's Foreign Direct Investment Confidence Index across the world. It is ranked much higher than other neighbouring countries. Japanese companies can thus expect the services of perfect quality for their business," said Degutiene.
The Japanese minister promised to take on specific steps on bilateral agreements to foster economic ties between Lithuania and Japan.
Later in the day, the Seimas speaker and parliamentary delegation will meet with heads of the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations.
