The liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and other related facilities will be built in the southern part of Klaipeda state seaport next to the island of Kiaules Nugara, decided Klaipeda Regional Environmental Protection Department.

"All state institutions (14 in total) involved in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process approved the report on the EIA, which shows that the project is viable and essential to Lithuania in order to ensure energy independence," said Rolandas Zukas, director of Klaipedos Nafta's LNG Terminal, reports LETA/ELTA.

The state owns 72.32% of Klaipedos Nafta shares.

LNG operations are planned to be launched by December of 2014.
