Renewable energy fee in Estonia will fall by 11.5% in 2014

BC, Tallinn, 28.11.2013.Print version
Estonian electricity system administrator Elering set the renewable energy fee at 0.77 cents per kWh for the year 2014, which is by 11.5% less than this year, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

The fee has fallen for two years in a row. This year the fee is 0.87 cents and last year it was 0.97 cents per kWh.

The size of the fee next year is affected considerably by the fact that the amount of subsidies paid to wind electricity generators has been considerably smaller this year than forecast, due to poor wind conditions. Thus the excess money that was collected based on the forecast on the basis of 2012 data will be subtracted from the sum needed to cover the subsidies of the year 2014.

According to the fresh forecast, the volume of electric energy produced from renewable sources and at effective co-production regime will reach 1,459 GWh in 2014. This means that the subsidies will reach 73.3 million euros.

Wind energy will form 41% of the electric energy that will receive the subsidies next year: the share of electricity stations of over 20 MW capacity using biomass is 31% and the share of stations using other sources, like hydro-energy, garbage or biogas is 12%. 16% of the subsidies is for electricity produced in the effective coproduction regime.

The share of electric energy produced of renewable energy to total consumption is forecast at 13.7% next year.
