Gas deliveries through Nord Stream exceeded 800 bln cubic feet in 2013
Russian news agency ITAR-Tass cites Nord Stream's consortium as saying last year, Nord Stream's twin pipelines carried 839 billion cubic feet of Russian natural gas to European consumers. Overall, Russian natural gas deliveries to Europe in 2013 were more than the previous year, the state-owned news agency reported on Monday, cites upi.com.
The Nord Stream lines are each designed to transport a maximum of 1.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas annually. The first leg of the pipeline system went into service in 2011.
Russian energy company Gazprom has a controlling stake in the Nord Stream pipeline consortium. Gazprom in 2012 announced it was reviewing the feasibility of adding two additional lines to the undersea pipeline system.
European consumers have secured alternative natural gas suppliers from the Shah Deniz field off the coast of Azerbaijan. The 540-mile Trans Adriatic pipeline, designed for a maximum 350 billion cubic feet, is expected to start carrying Azeri gas by 2019.
