Construction of Visaginas NPP and decommissioning of Ignalina NPP stalled
Estonia and Latvia are yet to announce their decision regarding Visaginas NPP project.
Meanwhile, decommissioning of Ignalina NPP is behind schedule not by months but by four years which is raising the cost. The jump in price will have to be covered by Lithuania because Brussels reduced funding. And the talks about the necessity of constructing Visaginas NPP have gone silent. Often such silence us ominous and means that things are handled secretly from the public.
This would be logical as the nation has disapproved the construction of a nuclear power plant in the referendum. Nonetheless, the politicians say that silence is prevalent because no progress was recently made. "Nothing new is happening. We are waiting for answers. However, a joint venture has to be established so that if anything unexpected happens we are equallyliable financially," said Chair of the Energy Commission Kestutis Dauksys.
