However, the future head of the Ministry for Energy still has no answers to what kind of power plant Lithuania needs – concerning its potential capacity, project partners and funding, erection date, as well as reserve capacity needed. Sekmokas says that it is only possible to talk about the model of the power plant and countries participating in its erection after having received answers to these questions.
According to him, answers must be sought to these questions as soon as possible, because the material submitted by LEO LT does not provide them.
The candidate for the energy minister assured that he did not intend to become involved in investigating the legitimacy of LEO LT activities, since it is a prerogative of the Constitutional Court and the European Commission.
After the decommissioning of the Ignalina power plant at the end of this year, according to the future minister, a part of the needed electricity will be compensated by Elektrenai, cheap electricity will be imported from Russia and a part of electricity will be bought on free market. However, the electricity produced by Lietuvos Elektrine will cost more than in the neighboring countries, because the generators of Elektrenai are non-efficient. The efficiency would become evident only in 2012-2013, when an up-to-date block is built.
