Semeta agreed to become new finance minister of Lithuania

Algirdas Semeta, head of the Department of Statistics of Lithuania, accepted an offer to hold the post of finance minister.

"It is only a beginning; there are official procedures still to be carried out. But yes, I have accepted the offer of the prime minister (Andrius Kubilius, leader of Conservatives, considered to be the most likely candidate to hold the post of prime minister)," Semeta told VZ.LT/ELTA.
Semeta has been heading the Department of Statistics since September 2001. Semeta was a finance minister in 1997-1999, at the Government led by Gediminas Vagnorius.
