BC, Tallinn, 17.09.2015.Print version
The Luhamaa border checkpoint in South East Estonia, at the Estonian-Russian border will undergo reconstruction work from the end of September until the end of May 2016; the cost of the work is a little more than two million euros, plus VAT, Public Broadcasting reports.

Luhamaa highway border checkpoint manager Aivo Pinte said that as the result of renovation work, for example, the time for checking bus passengers will be reduced two times and the border checkpoint's handling capacity will considerably increase, as well as better working conditions for the border guards will be created and detention facilities undergo renovations.

Traffic organisation in the checkpoint will be changed for the work period, but the border crossing point remains open around the clock. Still border crossing can take more time and if possible, people are asked to use the Koidula border checkpoint.

In the first eight months of this year, nearly 210,000 vehicles have crossed the border through the Luhamaa border checkpoint.
