Riga to renovate the Mezaparks open-air stage
It is planned that the municipality would borrow up to EUR 1.7 million in 2016-2017 for development of technical designs and would take a loan of up to EUR 45 million from the Treasury for implementation of the renovation project in 2017-2019. The first loan is to be repaid in three years, and the repayment period of the second loan will be 30 years.
The Riga City Council is yet to give its formal consent to the plan.
Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs (Harmony) previously said on the public Latvian Television that the Riga City Council had made a deal with the Finance Ministry and the Culture Ministry about an interest-free loan from the Treasury for a period of 30 years for renovation of the Mezaparks stage.
The Mezaparks open-air stage was built in 1955. Currently there is space for up to 9,000 choir singers on the stage and seats for some 22,000 spectators.
