Carlsberg, US Brooklyn Brewery investing EUR 5 mln in Lithuania
Dainius Smailys, corporate director at Svyturio-Utenos
Alus, said Carlsberg and Brooklyn Brewery would become
shareholders of a new company that will take over part of the current business
of Svyturio-Utenos Alus (part of the
Raudonuju Plytu trademark).
"A new company will be set up to become the operator of a new beer
production line and related businesses, namely, a restaurant, a beer knowledge
center, etc. (…) At the new company, Carlsberg
and Brooklyn Brewery will hold about
equal number of shares. I cannot specify the exact proportions now, however,
this will be a standard scheme, under which Brookly cooperates with Carlsberg in other breweries,"
Smailys told BNS.
In his words, the new firm, which is yet to be named, should be registered
by the end of July and expects to launch production in late 2017. The capacity
of the new line will be about 2 million liters per year, with production to be
distributed by Svyturys-Utenos Alus.
Smailys said the new company would brew types of Raudonuju Plytu and
Brooklyn beer, as well as experimental types of Svyturys beer.
"New types of beer and new trademarks may appear from cooperation of
Lithuanian and US brewers," said Smailys.
Svyturys-Utenos Alus said in the press release that this would be Brooklyn Brewery's first investment in Eastern Europe and third in
Europe. In cooperation with Carlsberg
Group, E.C.Dahls brewery was opened in Norway in 2016, the two companies have
been working in Sweden since 2012 in New Carnegie brewery.
