Rail freight in Latvia grew by 1.2% in H1

Freight transportation using the Latvian railway infrastructure amounted to 24.367 million tons in the first six months of the year 2017, up 1.2% from the same period in 2016, the state-owned railway company Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz) said, reports LETA.
International cargo shipments by rail in the first half of the year was at
23.78 million tons, up by 1.2% from the previous year, while domestic shipments
587,500 tons, down by 1.5%.
Transit cargo carried by rail was at 22.043 million tons in the first six
months of the year, or 6.5% more than the previous year. Import cargo carried
by rail was at 1.547 million tons (down by 26.2%), while export cargo was at
189,900 tons (close to fourfold reduction).
