The Estonian boat builder Baltic Workboats is to build a second 100-meter ferry to Sweden and the company also won a tender for supplying 15 pilot boats to Denmark, informs LETA/BNS.

"At present we are doing relatively well, we got a tender for 15 pilot boats from Denmark and also received an order for one large 100-meter ferry from Sweden, these are the two bigger contracts," Baltic Workboats CEO Margus Vanaselja told BNS.

The first 100-meter ferry with a steel body and aluminum superstructure was sold in July also to Sweden, where it started servicing local waterways in the vicinity of its home port Lysekil. The construction cost of the vessel was approximately 10 million euros. The ferry can carry up to 80 cars and 297 passengers, is powered by Volvo D16 motors and its maximum speed is 11 knots.

Vanaselja said that a new 45-meter patrol boat of the Police and Border Guard Board is currently under construction, which according to previous information should be finished at the beginning of next year. The cost of the tender agreement for the patrol boat with a pollution control capacity is approximately 13.4 million euros and the maximum speed of the vessel will be over 25 knots.

The vessel will be equipped with the latest technology, including a 9.2 GHz radar, which allows for the detection of surface pollution from a distance of 5 nautical miles, and a side-scanning sonar, which can be used to monitor underwater pollution on wrecks or to check pipelines. The vessel will also have oil control beams and oil spill skimmers. There will be a 7-meter work boat and rescue jetski for rescue and special operations.

The revenue of Baltic Workboats in 2016 totaled 27 million euros, which is 11.5 percent more than the year before, while the company's net profit fell 1.9 percent to 2.8 million euros.
