On Thursday, the South Korean company LK Technology opens a LED (light-emitting diode) lighting assembly plant in Kaunas. Over the next four years the Koreans plan to invest 30 million euros and create some 100 jobs.

According to Managing Director of Investuok Lietuvoje Mantas Nocius, it has been already the second Koreans' project this month. The other plant was opened in Taurage last week. Kaunas was chosen for the city being a major logistics centre and close to both the airport and the sea, writes LETA/ELTA.

Deputy Director of LK Development Rasa Incerauskaite says the Lithuanian plant will produce the latest generation LED lighting systems, indoor and outdoor ligthting equipment, lamps, as well as collaborate with such South Korean companies as Samsung. Production should be launched in April and marketed not only to Lithuania and the Baltic States but also to Western Europe.

Last week, another South Korean company, LK Green Energy, opened a similar plant in Taurage. The investment there will total 15 million euros and some 100 jobs will be created.
