Lithuanian scholar intends to create Baltic cultural park in China

Dr. Petras Grecevicius from the Klaipeda University is about to implement his extraordinary idea – to design the Baltic cultural park in China.

The Baltic Land will be situated in the north of China, close to the city of Jinzhou. The park should be built before 2013. It will present the Baltic culture by introducing various cultural symbols, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

In all, the project will occupy an area of 400 hectares. It will consist of science and technology parks, residential areas as well as Chinese and other countries historical parks. "There were 43 participants from foreign countries who presented their ideas and only 20 of them were selected," Grecevicius said.

 

Funds for the project will be provided by Chinese investors. Lithuania is the only Baltic country to get the opportunity to participate in this project.

 

Petras Grecevičius is amongst 20 finalists, in a world-wide competition, whose designs will be built for the 2013 World Landscape Art Exposition in Jinzhou, China.

 

Landscape architects from around the world were invited to submit preliminary concept designs for one of 20 gardens that will be developed for the Expo and the winners will be announced at the Expo’s closure..

 

It was a great opportunity for the landscape architects in our Landscape Architecture & Environmental design Department. Formation Baltic cultural park idea was supported and assisted by architects: Dovilė Furmaniukaitė, Audrius Katkevičius, Edgaras Lepeška, Liudas Kalkis, landscape manager Domas Grecevičius, landscape architects: Andrius Rimkus, Ramunė Urbonienė, Diana Baravykaitė, Kristina Barbšytė, Jonas Abromas, Romas Marčius, historians Vladas Žulkus, Jonas Genys, Palanga (E. Andre) Park director, engineer Antanas Sebeckas, geographical Vilija Grecevičienė, designer Matas Grecevičius, dendrology prof. Algimantas M. Olšauskas.

 

Implemented in China, Jinzhou City the park idea of The Baltic culture is very important among other important the world's landscape architects work. Because is an opportunity familiarize visitors with one of the oldest European cultures features and reflections in contemporary southeastern Baltic Sea region landscape. It is extremely important and this, that the park will be specifically in China where over thousand years was born the most beautiful world gardens park ideas.
