Poland's anti-monopoly watchdog, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has approved the takeover of Polish supermarket chain Aldik Nova by Maxima Grupe, the largest Lithuanian capital company and the largest employer in the Baltic States, Warsaw Business Journal reports.
Headquartered in Lublin, Aldik Nova currently operates over 20 stores in two Polish voivodships. In January 2011, Maxima had 459 retail supermarkets operating in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Bulgaria, informs LETA/ELTA.
Although the exact size of the transaction has not been revealed, it is expected to be sizeable, as under Polish law a transaction is subject to the Office's approval if it involves undertakings with a total turnover exceeding EUR 1 billion globally or EUR 50 million in Poland.
