In Q1, construction volume in Latvia increased by 9.8% y-o-y

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2012, construction volume in the 1st quarter of 2013, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, grew by 1.4%. Of which construction of buildings rose by 4.0%, while construction of civil engineering structures dropped by 2.4%.

In comparison with the 1st quarter of the previous year, construction volume in the 1st quarter of this year, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices, increased by 9.8%. Construction of buildings went up by 16.1%, of which construction of residential buildings rose more than twice. Due to notable rise in the volume of construction of main pipelines, communication and electricity lines (2.6 times) the number of civil engineering structures erected grew by 2.2%.

During the 1st quarter, 313 building permits were granted for the construction, capital repairs, reconstruction and restoration of single-dwelling houses with total floor space 78.0 thousand m2(in the 1st quarter of 2012 – 304 building permits 66.7 thousand m2, respectively), of which 185 permits were issued for the construction of new single-dwelling buildings with total floor space 42.5 thousand m2. In comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of building permits issued for the construction of single-dwelling houses did not change, while floor space increased by 8.7%.
Moreover, 74 building permits were granted for the construction of industrial production buildings and warehouses with total floor space 163.5 thousand m2, of which 38 permits were issued for the construction of new industrial production buildings and warehouses with total floor space 58.2 thousand m2. While a year ago, 80 building permits were granted and total floor space constituted 93.2 thousand m2, of which 49 permits were issued for the construction of new industrial production buildings and warehouses with total floor space 41.3 thousand m2.
